A. Purpose

By applying fees to researcher-hosted Workshops conducted within the Department of Experimental Animal Research, the Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) provides active operational support (event support) so that event hosts and participants can achieve their intended objectives to the fullest extent. At the same time, this increases the Institute's revenue and revitalizes Workshops, thereby promoting educational activation as the research institute of the national central hospital.

B. Workshop Fee Categories

1. Workshop Fee 1

When a principal investigator affiliated with Seoul National University or the College of Medicine, or an individual clinical department, hosts the event and the trainees consist solely of internal research personnel

2. Workshop Fee 2

When the event is hosted with the management and support of an internal principal investigator, affiliated laboratory/research group, or research institute, and is attended by research personnel including external participants

C. Considerations for Fee Calculation

1. Number of Attendees

Currently, the dress code for entry permits 5 persons for the Surgery Rooms (Surgery Rooms 1, 2, 3 & ICU & Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory) and 2 persons for the shared laboratories (including the Imaging Research Room and X-ray Fluoroscopy Room). However, when conducting a Workshop, the standard is set at 10 persons/day per Surgery Room and 5 persons/day per shared laboratory.

2. Space Use

The space usage fee is calculated based on the standards determined by the Department of Experimental Animal Research Operating Committee, taking into account the clothing usage fee, in-facility Utility usage fee (electricity, water, Gas, etc.), and equipment usage fee.

3. Department of Experimental Animal Research Personnel Support

Currently, the support of Department of Experimental Animal Research staff is not factored into the conduct of experiments. However, to ensure smooth event operation, support may be provided upon the event host's request following consultation. In such cases, the personnel support is applied as a fee, and the Department of Experimental Animal Research requests the corresponding overtime allowance for the supporting personnel from the hospital.

4. Event Venue

Workshop venues are limited to the Surgery Room area, Radiology Room area, and shared laboratory area; the Animal Facility (including barrier), infection laboratory, and allocation laboratory are excluded. However, the 9th- and 10th-floor experiment preparation rooms and meeting rooms may be used following consultation.

D. Fee Application

Workshop Fee 1 Application Criteria

The fees normally applied to general experiments are applied as-is. However, when support from Department of Experimental Animal Research staff is required, a fee at the level of the personnel support cost is applied (personnel and technical support costs are calculated separately).

Workshop Fee 2 Calculation Criteria

Calculation is based on the following criteria (for use of morning/afternoon / 1 day / 1 venue).

  1. 1) Space usage fee, clothing usage fee, in-facility Utility and equipment usage fees
  2. 2) Event support operation costs
  3. 3) Event personnel support cost during experiments
  • ※ The above does not include the technical support fee required for conducting the Workshop.
  • ※ As a rule, various consumables required for experiments (Package, fluids, anesthetics, syringes, catheters, etc.) are dispensed based on the amounts budgeted by the Department of Experimental Animal Research.
  • ※ When education is required or requested-such as prior training on equipment usage, animal weight measurement, restraint and hair removal, anesthesia (including pre-anesthesia), and euthanasia-the corresponding fees are budgeted and applied separately.
  • ※ As a rule, the facilitating staff among Workshop attendees must complete the Department of Experimental Animal Research user orientation in advance and, if necessary, the SPF user orientation. Workshop attendees enter areas during the session under the guidance of personnel who have completed the orientation.

E. Role of the Department of Experimental Animal Research

  1. (1) The Department reviews the requirements for the Workshop by exchanging opinions in advance with the Workshop coordinator. (The Workshop organizers must designate a contact person to consult with the Department of Experimental Animal Research in advance.)
  2. (2) Signage or guidance notices are posted within the facility.
  3. (3) Entry guidance is provided for attendees during the Workshop.
  4. (4) Appropriate technical support is provided during the Workshop (fees budgeted separately).
