Surgery Room Overview

The surgery area consists of 3 surgery rooms, an I.C.U. & anesthesia/surgery preparation room, and a scrub room. To maintain a clean surgery room environment, anesthesia and surgical-site preparation (hair clipping of the surgical site, etc.) of medium and large animals must always be performed in the anesthesia/surgery preparation room before the animal is transferred into the surgery room. Infectious waste must also be separated accurately.

Principles of Surgery Room Use

  1. 1

When the surgical site requires hair clipping, to maintain a clean surgery area, the standard procedure is: anesthetize the animal by injection, place the animal on the animal transfer cart in the anesthesia/surgery preparation room, clip the hair, remove the clipped hair with a vacuum cleaner, then move the animal to the operating table in the surgery room using the animal transfer cart, and return the animal transfer cart to the anesthesia/surgery preparation room.

  2. 2

Researchers who need to scrub their hands may use the Scrub Room in Room 9202.

  3. 3

After using the inhalation anesthesia machine, please be sure to detach the wall gas adapter.

  4. 4

After using the surgery room, please be sure to return any equipment and instruments moved from other surgery rooms (monitoring lines, pressure bag) to their original positions, and thoroughly clean and organize the equipment. Before leaving the surgery room once all experiments are complete, please be sure to fill out the Researcher Post-Use Inspection Record of the surgery room (the yellow file is provided in each surgery room).

Technical Support

  • Provided within a scope that does not interfere with the core duties of the Preclinical Experiment Laboratory.
  • Technical support that directly affects experimental results is, in principle, not available; however, it may be provided in unavoidable cases (e.g., a research team's participation in an overseas conference) at the discretion of the Preclinical Experiment Laboratory.
  • Research teams receiving technical support must pay the appropriate fee corresponding to each item.
