Overview

The rodent animal facility of the Department of Experimental Animal Research at Seoul National University Hospital is a core facility that forms the foundation of life sciences and biomedical research. To ensure the accuracy and reproducibility of research, it maintains rigorous environmental management and a systematic operating system. The facility maintains environmental conditions that meet international standards and systematically carries out the entire process-feed supply, sanitation management, health monitoring, and more-in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). In addition, it thoroughly manages the health status of laboratory animals through a microbially controlled environment.

Currently, the introduction of laboratory animals at the SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) level is required as a principle, and the facility is operated in three zones: the SPF zone, the Semi-SPF zone, and the general external-release zone. All animal facilities apply the Individual Ventilated Cage (IVC) system to minimize cross-infection and to ensure worker safety.

The rodent animal facility of the Department of Experimental Animal Research at Seoul National University Hospital pursues both the conduct of ethical animal experiments and the creation of scientific research outcomes, establishing itself as a trusted research infrastructure that contributes to enhancing domestic and international research competitiveness.

Technical Support

Status of technical support provided by the Small Animal Facility.

  • Technical support is provided within a scope that does not interfere with the inherent duties of the Department of Experimental Animal Research.
  • Technical support that directly affects experimental results is, in principle, not available; however, in unavoidable cases (such as a research team's participation in an overseas conference), it may be provided at the discretion of the Department of Experimental Animal Research.
  • Research teams receiving technical support must pay the appropriate fee corresponding to each item.
